About Us

The Marches Meadow Group was established in 2015 to promote the conservation, protection and enhancement of species-rich hay meadows, grasslands and unimproved pastures initially in the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) Stiperstones and Corndon Hill Country Landscape Partnership Scheme (LPS) area. The LPS provided funding for a tractor and hay-making machinery which allowed MMG contractors to cut and bale members' hay. Management for hay promotes greater diversity of plants and associated insects, and this can be further enhanced by green hay and seed collection and sowing.

Further support from players of  People's Postcode Lottery and the Green Recovery Challenge Fund 2, both administered by the National Trust's Stepping Stones Project has allowed further sets of hay-making equipment to be purchased and we now cover a wider area of the Welsh Marches in Shropshire and Powys.

We have approximately 200 members, some of whom own meadows ranging from small lawns to large fields.
